How do I play these quests?
The quests on this page are made using Zelda Classic, an awesome game editor based on the original NES Legend of Zelda. The editor features the game mechanics and elements from that first Zelda, but allows the user to customize it as they wish without any programming knowledge. Alternatively you can go full out with the editor by programming your own mechanics, items and enemies.
In order to play the games, which are called quests in the Zelda Classic community, you need to download the Zelda Classic player. After that you can play all these quests below and even more from zeldaclassic.com or purezc.net by other community members, all for free!
There are many different versions of Zelda Classic. Simply using the latest version could work, but some older quests might not run so well on the latest version. For that reason we recommend to install the version the quest was built with.
The first quest in the Nargad Trail series. Started as a small collaboration quest between Twilight_Knight and CastChaos, it is now a full fledged quest with a fun concept, crazy overworlds, 8 intense dungeons, 1 huge final dungeon, secret areas and many extras.
Long ago, there was an incredible force in Krelaila that controlled the universe. It was so mighty that people called in their God. Because some wanted to be freed from the mind-controlling force, they harnessed the power in the form of artifacts and these artifacts were hidden far away, hidden from humanity.
Ages later, nearly all records were destroyed of the force, since it was insulting to modern-day beliefs. However, a young, wicked boy named Argon was lucky enough to have one of the last surviving books, telling about the Orb of Fierce, the mightiest rune on the planet. He became obsessed with the idea of having it.
Argon grew up to be a war commander and his many victories and plunders made him so incredibly rich he bought his own estate, with his own laws, allowing magic to be practiced in public. From here he could surely obtain the Orb of Fierce...
Around the same time, a young boy in the town of Millton just became 18, old enough to get his own equipment and travel the country far and wide. This is were all the following horrors began. His name was Nargad and this is Nargad's Trail...
This is the sequel to Nargad's Trail: Argon's Evil Lair, but the gameplay and concept is quite different from NTAEL. The quest doesn't put much emphasis on story, but instead focuses on an emerging world to explore. Besides that, there are 8 classical dungeons by CastChaos featured in this quest and 1 big final dungeon.
The lands of Krelaila are under attack by a dreadful army called the Rebonites and Nargad is sent to retrieve an ancient artifact in order to stop that army. Unravel the mysteries about Argon and the Orb of Fierce. Learn more about Krelaila's past and find out who your true enemy is.
This quest has been cancelled, so is very unplayable! However, I decided to release it so others can use the great tileset (Mac et Blue tileset by CastChaos). Feel free to use any resources from this quest, since it's unpassworded.
This is a prequel to the happenings in Argon's Evil Lair. It's about Aeomus Frozenblood, a warlock previously in Argon's service.
Ballad of a Bloodline
This is the most well known quest made by CastChaos. It's a story about a young couple and their adventures in Hyrule. It's a real big game, with 12 extensive main dungeons, various extra dungeons and tons of overworld to explore. Have fun!
As far as people can remember back, there was a big, happy, perfect peace. However, once a war broke out between Hyrule and an other world. The world was on the verge of swallowed by darkness when a Hero came and banished the evil to its world and defeated it there with a legendary sword. Ever since there is peace, but the King of Hyrule decided that the adventurers were responsible for bringing the evil there and so prohobited everybody from adventuring and leaving Hyrule. Hundreds of years pass without anybody succeeding in escaping. Now in the present... Two young Hyrulean, Knil and Myra (boyfriend and girlfriend) plans escaping into adventure... Will they succeed?
Although... historians might be wrong... can be that Knil and Myra will find some clues about the real happenings of the past...
Both Knil and Myra having nightmares recently... About a monster imprisoned underground... About a king... About a scientist... Will these nightmares come true? Is this the real question?
This quest by CastChaos is the sequel and succesor of Ballad of a Bloodline. It's a big, story revolved quest where the main character Coral can change the seasons! Bound to be epic.
After the happenings of Ballad of a Bloodline, life goes on as it never did. The inhabitants of the new Hyrule discovered the truth behind the old legends, but it's not clear for them how did Vaati disappear and what has became with those whos are supposedly behind it: Knil and Myra. It is rumoured that they were the ones whos rebuilt a certain old monolith, which is now the symbol of Peace. Altough adventuring isn't forbidden anymore, few dare to do it.
16 years after the disappearance of Vaati, a girl, called Coral, is living with her mother at Mt.DeadEnd. Having an immense urge for adventure, she follows a strange call to the Monolith of Peace where a soul contacts her and begs Coral to destroy the eight Tetrad Seals, so the soul can locate the gate that leads to the soul's freedom. After a while, Coral accepts the adventure and keeps changing the seasons so that all eight dungeon (where the Tetrad Seals are guarded) can be accessed. But the leisure tetrad collecting soon turns into a race for tetrads, a nightmare where Coral doesn't know who is friend or foe anymore and even starts to doubt her own place in the universe...
Linear story type quest with 3 possible endings. The penultimate episode of the BB series.
You are stuck in a dark world with a lore and gods that are different than of Hyrule. The only chance to get back home is to use the time travel abilities of certain children. But even then, will there still be a home to return to...?
This quest ends all story arches started in the previous BB games. What you do and in what order fundamentally affects what the game will give you. There's much freedom, you decide when to advance on the dungeon or tower line.
Coral and Alma are back in their time, just 2 years later than planned. The Guardian was already turned into a mask and its wearer causes havoc, as well as the World Collision is putting all of existence into danger.
Relatively short almost story type quest with very free gameplay and new features.
It depends on your choices if this quest is short and simple, or longer with deeper story. All your actions count to determine what scenes, items and areas you can get.
- 4 normal levels
- many other things
- a big secret after you beat it
16 years after the end of BBIV, Bell, the daughter of Coral decides to bring back the seasons and so goes on a big adventure.
This is a slightly bigger than small quest with Myra as main character (this is a Ballad of a Bloodline prequel), three dungeons that you beat in any order then a final dungeon. There are two endings. All items and enemies are either highly tweaked or completely custom. (My favourite is the aLttP style skeletton.) There are 3 custom bosses altogether.
The Christmas feeling fades in Hyrule from year to year but this time an entity contacts Myra claiming that it's the Spirit of Christmas and sends her on an adventure to destroy three ward items that keep the Christmas feeling out from Hyrule.
The deluxe version of my favorite quest, Ballad of a Bloodline by CastChaos. The focus was on adding 2.5 elements (it was originally for 2.10), making the quest smoother, adding a few new areas and items, in other words: polishing what in my opinion is a gemstone.
There was a perfect period of complete peace in Hyrule, ended by a horrible war that never wanted to cease. Then came the Hero with the Sword and banished the darkness back to another world. Ever since, adventuring is forbidden to avoid such conflicts.
However, approximately 16 years ago, strange things started to happen including an otherwordly storm, a riot at the castle, hiring of Darknuts, yellow triangles flying through the air and isolation of the royal family...
Today there are two youngsters whose desire to escape the tyrannical oppression in Hyrule and its adventure forbidding rule. Their names are Knil & Myra.
This their story...
This is their ballad...
Free gameplay for all kind of players.
It depends on your choices if this quest is short and simple, or long with deep story. You don't have to beat all levels for the ending, there are different endings for different players:
- for who just rushes through the lower levels
- for who wants to explore only a specific area
- for who wants to find and beat everything
You can go through the levels in just about any order!
- 17 normal levels
- huge overworld masses to explore
- incredibly many secret caves and dungeons
- 8 endings
- each ending has its own final dungeons
In another world, on continent Valami of planet Continents... a little Hufnn boy decides to go on an adventure.
This quest with classic NES Zelda looks is the first quest released by CastChaos. It's well known for it's hard puzzles.

Small classic-ish, 7 dungeons long quest that doesn't use all hardcoded items.
Short and simple ZC version of my favourite cartoon, Les Mondes Engloutis (Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea).
